Naturopathy Clinic

You may have never heard of it and it can be tricky to say, but in essence Naturopathy is the art and science of regaining and promoting health through natural means (is there any other way?). It is about adopting a healthy lifestyle for your own individual needs and situation. But in this complicated world it may not always be clear to you exactly what your body needs right now. That's where I come in - I can act as a guide through all the conflicting advice and immense amount of information that's out there.

With Naturopathy we are not particularly concerned with what diagnosis you have been given (eczema, IBS, PMS, diabetes, chronic fatigue, chronic pain syndrome and so on). We believe that all 'disease' is a result of inner imbalance in one or more of the following areas; nutritional/biochemical; structural/physical; mental/emotional. If we address the underlying root causes of illness, be that nutritional deficiency, spinal misalignment or emotional stress than our symptoms resolve themselves. (The only exceptions to this are with genetically inherited conditions such as cystic fibrosis, but even with these conditions, health can be improved via Naturopathic means).

Naturopaths recognise that the body is always striving towards health and repair. So why then does it not always succeed? In Naturopathy we have a phrase called 'obstacles to cure'. This means 'what is the block preventing the body's healing efforts from resolving this problem?'. The role of the Naturopath is to help you discover the root causes of your health issues, and to remove the obstacles that are preventing you from recovering. The Naturopath acts as a guide, coach, mentor and teacher. The origin of the word doctor derives in fact from the latin word docere which actually means 'to teach'. So although Naturopaths are not medical doctors we consider ourselves to be true to the original meaning of the word doctor, and we educate our patients on what they need to do in order to get better.

Naturopathy is not just a collection of therapies - reflexology, nutrition, indian head massage, supplements prescriber etc etc. Having a collection of therapies at your fingertips is great but does not make you a Naturopath. Naturopaths have a very deep understanding of the processes that create health and the processes that create disease. We have studied the same medical sciences as conventional doctors, only instead of studying as much about disease, pathology and medications we study about health, nutrition, spinal alignment and healthy lifestyle.
